Everyone has that one movie they watched as a kid that completely freaked them out.  What was yours?

TEXT QUESTION OF THE DAY:
What movie traumatized you as a kid? How did it?

  • You're going to make me say it. The thought of that VHS with a green piece on it still horrifies me. And those commercials past year bringing it back.....it gives me the ickies everywhere. It's ET. Bleh! Just saying it weirds me out. Seriously though, when he's running around in drag and screaming "Elliot!!" it's downright terrifying. I mean come on, he looks like a wrinkly man part. *Shivers in displeasure*
  • Return to Oz which takes place 6 months after Wizard of Oz and Dorothy is now in an insane asylum and about to get electroshock therapy. On top of that, once she has returned to Oz there's a Princess, Princess Mombi, with a room of decapitated heads that are alive and that she can change into like changing hats. Then there are The Wheelers, see photo. I was 4 or 5 when I saw it. Horror movies have never bothered me (and my favorite genre now!) but this definitely scarred me.
  • SIGNS. I was a wee 9 year old. This movie scarred me so much that I had nightmares on the school bus. It took me a while to brush it off. To this day I still won’t watch it.
  • The Wizard of Oz. Yep, those Flying Monkeys. Now remember, that movie only came on once a YEAR (no DVR, DVD’s, VHS tapes or Netflix). So, for the dang Monkey part I hid behind the couch. Had some bad dreams about those Monkeys.
  • IT!! My sister and I shared a room...she thought it was funny to play it every night before bed! I had a creeeeepy stuffed clown that if I took off the bed my sister would throw back on. She still torments me with clowns!
  • Children of the corn. The part where he hides as a scarecrow and they kill him. At least that is what I remember. Never seen it again.
  • Killer Bees!! I would cry at night in bed cause my dad was at work and I was scared for him. But also Pet Cemetery, I was pregnant at the time and in the one part, no spoilers, I got up and walked out for the second time, cause my then husband had dragged me back in already, and never have I seen any part past that car seen.
  • JAWS!!! Wouldn’t go anywhere near an ocean till I was an adult..didn’t particularly like lakes either but once I was old enough to understand fresh water vs saltwater I was good in lakes!!
  • My parents watched It when I was two, not realizing how traumatizing it would be. Was scared of drains and showers for years. Similarly, Arachnophobia made me scared of practically everything.
  • JAWS. I was terrified of oceans, lakes and even pools. I’d scope the pool before jumping in too because someone might have put a shark in there OR it was ready to come up through the drain.
  • Children of the Corn the original one and I HATE HATE HATE cornfields now!
  • Jaws. I was 8. I saw the scene where the dude gets bit in half on a neighbor's HUGE big screen TV. I slept with my knees to my chest for like 3 weeks. I was positive that dang shark was gonna come bite me in half.
  • Oh my gosh, 100% hands down Pet Cemetery!! When I was little and one of my pets died, we buried them in a little area in our backyard. After seeing that movie I thought my pets were going to come back to live and get me LoL To this day I still can’t watch the movie!!
  • Gremlins! Oh mylanta those things were creepy to me as a little girl. Went to see it in the theater with a bunch of friends...don't know what my mother was thinking letting me go when I was so young. Needless to say I got so scared I left and called home and she had to come to pick me up.
  • Cujo! My Dad thought it would be a great idea to watch it with me.. I was 6! I had nightmares for a year that I was the kid in the car. I'd wake up just before the dog would grab me.
  • The Exorcist- my Mom forbid me to watch it, so I watched it at a friend’s house. Had nightmares but couldn’t tell my mom. The old catholic guilt stuck with me for while. Not sure I ever told her.
  • Dante’s Peak! Especially since I was 8 and my brother told me the big hill behind our house was a volcano. And later on he lit a small fire on the otherside so it was smoking and came and told me the volcano was waking up and going to erupt.
  • Spiderwick Chronicles. When I tell you we put baking soda (or salt, can’t remember now, I was like 6 or 7) in every entrance of the house, we did. We were terrified those creatures were going to come in and get us
  • Bad Ronald, 1974. Pretty cheesy to look back at now, but terrified little 9 year old me! Literally have had a lifetime of nightmares from it.
  • Nightmare on Elm Street. I’m still terrified of Freddy Krueger as an adult.
  • Ugh The Shining. When I was maybe like 14 I asked my mom what the scariest movie she had ever seen was, so we rented the shining and watched it. I didn’t sleep with the light off for weeks!
  • The tv show Circle Of Fear! Hands coming up through the ground, my sister and I used run through the hallway in the house at night “just in case “ I think we were less than 10 years old.
  • The Shining. My dad took me to see it in the theater when I was about 9 years old. In his defense, he probably didn’t really know how old I was. I had to get up and go sit in the lobby at one point.
  • The Exorcist! Scared the crap out of me! When her head started spinning I was ready to run out of the theater!
  • The tv mini series of Steven King’s It. Made me scared of clowns and sewers.
  • Return to Oz! Dorothy is undergoing electroconvulsive therapy to rid her of thoughts of Oz. When she returns she is facing scary stuff including a witch that collects heads
  • Freddy Krueger; no baths until I was in my early 30’s!
  • The Exorcist. I actually never got that far into the movie before l had a panic attack just thinking of what was to come.
  • Amityville horror saw it at a drive-in when I was about 11
  • Jaws!!! I use to think Jaws the Shark would come up through a secret place in the swimming pool. Also to this day I can’t waterski or tube on the lake
  • The Blue Lagoon (1980). Brooke Shields got her period in the lake and it was gross and freaked me out.
  • Twister and Dante’s peak. Still won’t watch them to this day. Worst part they are my moms and sisters favorite movies so I have to go to another room when they watch them.
  • Candyman. That guy freaked me out so bad. I couldnt see the movie cover without having to close my eyes
  • IT... I didn’t sleep for 3 months and I had to sleep with my back against the wall.
  • 1983 - I was 5. There was a TV show/mini series called V. Nightmares forever ....

  • ? of the day "don't be afraid of the dark", it's these little demons that look like little raisin heads and they drag people down into a fireplace !ever since I saw that movie ,I will not let my hands or feet hang over the bed because they will come and cut me and drag me down
  • TQOTD-A movie that traumatized me was Pumpkin Head. I was 8. I don't watch scary movies anymore lol. I'm a chicken yes, I am not scared to admit it lol. However, for some reason i always thought The Exorcist was hilarious lmao!!!!
  • TQOTD! I watched scary movies growing up all the time & they never bothered me. Except...Thirteen Ghosts. The Jackal from that movie is terrifying AF & I legit had a day terror of it. It's still one of my absolute favorite scary movies lol but the Jackal is sketchy as shit.
  • TQOTD. Man...Salem's Lot. My dad had beautiful icy blue-gray eyes but when that big-headed vampire popped up with those eyes, I was convinced my dad was a vampire
  • Psycho, still can't take showers to this day. Love ya and so glad your making our day "NORMAL"
  • The movie that traumatized me was “Poltergeist”. I have brothers that are 7&10 years older than me. The girl in the movie is Carol Ann. I am Kara Lynn. She was cute little blonde girl and so was I. They would whisper into the vent in my bedroom “Carol Ann”. Freaked me out. They would also set the tv to just static like in the movie when the monsters would “talk” to Carol Ann.
  • Harry & the Henderson's gave me nightmares and I was afraid Big Foot was under my bed so I would run and jump in bed so he couldn't grab my legs.

  • The movie that traumatized me was inspector gadget. It only traumatized me because I had just got my tonsils removed because it was obstructing my hearing. So it was the first movie I saw after that happened and it was way to loud and scary that my dad had to take me out of the theater.
