10 JCPenney Stores Closing in Michigan

In May, JCPenney said they would be closing 242 of their stores (about 30% of their total stores) nationwide after declaring bankruptcy. Last month, we learned three of those stores are in Michigan, now that number has gone up to 10.

On Monday, the retailer said that liquidation sales have begun at most of their stores on June 17 with more rounds expected to begin on July 3rd. In addition, they announced more locations that would be closing for good. The 10 stores that will close in Michigan are:

Alma - Northtown Village
Alpena - Alpena Mall
Bay City - Bay City Town Center
Big Rapids
Cadillac - Cadillac Shopping Center
Greenville - Greenville West Mall
Mt. Pleasant - Mt. Pleasant Shopping Center
Okemos - Meridian Mall
Owosso
Petoskey

The ones at Rivertown Crossing and Woodland Mall remain safe, at least for now. Out of all the states, the most closures are occurring in Michigan. Most other states are closing a couple to a handful of stores.

Before the stores close, customers should take advantage of the sales because JCPenney says they're offering 25-40% off storewide.

All sales will be final starting June 25.

Nearly all of their stores have reopened after the pandemic and with safety procedures in place including contactless checkout and plexiglass at the registers. JCPenney is also operating on limited hours from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday's.
