If you were one of the many hundreds of thousands of Michigan residents who lost power because of weekend storms, you could be eligible for compensation.

State Attorney General, Dana Nessel sent out a news release Monday morning reminding customers of Consumers Energy & DTE Energy that they could receive a $25 credit if they were without power for 16 or more hours. This falls under "normal conditions" as opposed to a "catastrophic condition" and by law, the utility companies have to issue credits for outages.

Credits are also available for repetitive interruptions if a customer experiences more than seven interruptions in a 12-month period.

Just make sure you have the time and dates of when the outages occurred.

According to the Detroit Free Press, between Consumers & DTE about 850K people were affected from this weekend's storm. While most have gotten their power restored, some may not get power back until Wednesday.
