Date Set For Completion Of New Barrio Restaurant In Downtown GR

Another new eatery in Downtown Grand Rapids has a timeline set as it moves towards opening its first Grand Rapids location.

Barrio restaurant has been listed in the building directory at 37 Ottawa since early 2021.

But those who've followed the progress hoping for a taste of Barrio's signature 'Tacos + Tequila + Whiskey' have seen little change to the empty space just a block away from Van Andel Arena.

But Construction Simplified, the company in charge of construction at the space, announced this week that the restaurant is expected to be completed in time for next summer, possibly as early as Spring 2022:

We are thrilled to play a part in the "bounce back" of the restaurant industry by acting as Construction Manager on the Barrio Tacos project at 37 Ottawa in Downtown Grand Rapids!

Barrio is known for its outstanding tacos, tequila, whiskey, and beer, and is well established across the Midwest with 13 additional locations. This exciting new spot will feature hand-painted murals from wall-to-wall that celebrate Hispanic culture, unique metal sculptures, and incredible food. Patrons will also be able to enjoy a great outdoor dining experience during the warmer months, just in time for the projected Spring 2022 finish!

Scott Wierda, Managing Partner of CWD, the company that owns 37 Ottawa, says that Barrio is set to be a great addition to GR's 'Hotel District':

Barrio’s casual menu, drink selection, and lively decor is a great addition to the Core Downtown, Hotel District, and the Entertainment District. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Jake Hawley and his team to the city’s dining scene.

Barrio Tacos currently has two other Michigan locations including Traverse City & East Lansing.
