Michigan Native Billy Strings Takes Home Another Grammy
Billy Strings just did it again. And it still feels a little surreal.
The Ionia and Michigan native picked up his third Grammy Award on Sunday night (February 1st), winning Best Bluegrass Album at the 68th annual Grammy Awards for his 2025 release Highway Prayers.
This one didn’t come easy, either. The category was stacked, with albums from Sierra Hull, Michael Cleveland and Jason Carter, Alison Krauss & Union Station, and The Steeldrivers. Like many categories as a part of this year’s Grammys, any one of those records could’ve taken it. But once again, Billy Strings walked away with the trophy, following his previous wins for Live Vol. 1 last year and Home back in 2021.
Billy isn’t just winning awards for Michigan, he’s carrying ‘northern’ bluegrass into rooms it hasn’t always been invited into, and doing it without losing the soul of the music. Watching someone who came up playing local shows and Midwest festivals now casually stacking Grammys never really gets old.
In a short social media post, he thanked “all the GRAMMYS folks” and took a moment to lift up the other nominees, writing, “it’s an honor to be recognized along with such fine musicians”.
At this point, it’s hard to call any of this surprising but, it’s still pretty incredible. Another Grammy for Billy Strings. Another win for Michigan. And another reminder that sometimes the kid from Ionia really does make it all the way to the biggest stage, and then keeps coming back home.
