Another Road Closure Headache on the Way for Drivers in West Michigan
Winter is over, flowers are blooming, and the true sign of spring in Michigan is upon us - construction season.
Along with the flowers popping up throughout the state are the orange barrels. And another major road closure headache is coming for drivers in West Michigan.

Michiganders aren't strangers to road construction, but this one is going to be a nightmare to maneuver around.
M-37 (Broadmoor Ave.) to Close in Grand Rapids/Kentwood
MDOT issued a release on April 7, 2025, to give residents of Kentwood a heads-up about a road construction project that could seriously affect their daily commutes.
According to the release, northbound Broadmoor Ave. will be closed at M-6 beginning on April 14, 2025, and isn't expected to reopen until sometime in mid-July. Following that closure, the southbound side of Broadmoor will close at M-6 from mid-July until sometime in mid-October.
Suggested detours for the closures include using M-6, I-196, or 28th St. (M-11).

There will also be several intersection closings throughout the construction timeline (which is expected to be from April 14 until sometime in November).
These closures and detours are all part of a project to rebuild Broadmoor from 44th St. to just north of 60th St.
Other Road Construction Projects in West Michigan: Spring/Summer 2025
The Broadmoor construction project is in addition to several others that will be happening throughout West Michigan this Spring and Summer.
Division Ave. in Downtown Grand Rapids is currently closed (and has been since early March). It is currently closed from Fulton St. to Michigan Ave.
That stretch of street isn't expected to reopen until at least November. During the construction shutdown, several improvements will take place, including widening bike lanes, installing medians, and upgrading street lighting.
In addition to that nightmare of a closure, there's also a major closure currently underway in Walker.
Normally, when driving near Exit 26 on both eastbound and westbound I-96, you can see the Fruit Ridge Ave. Bridge off in the distance.
But not anymore. Over the weekend (April 5 & 6), the Fruit Ridge Ave. bridge over I-96 was torn down.
This is part of a project to widen Fruit Ridge Ave. from 3 Mile Rd. to Northridge Dr.
This project is expected to wrap up in early November.

There are a ton of road construction projects planned throughout the state through the spring, summer, and fall. You can get details on all of them via the State of Michigan's MI Drive Map.
