A semi truck crashed into an electrical pole at a Grand Rapids intersection and knocked out power to buildings throughout the downtown area Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at around 10:30 a.m. at Michigan Street and Diamond Avenue.

So far we know that Grand Rapids Police headquarters has lost power as have other buildings downtown.  Roughly 4,000 Consumers Energy customers are currently without power.

The Consumer's Energy Outage Map shows that the outage has impacted a large portion of Michigan St. (from Lafayette to Plymouth Ave.), a large portion of College Ave. (from Washington to Walnut St.), a large portion of Fulton St. (from Prospect to Wallinwood Ave.), and a large portion of Foutain St. (from Ranson until Fountain dead ends into Arthur Ave.)

Michigan Ave. is also closed east of Fuller Ave. while crews work to clear the accident scene.
