“I Can’t Breathe”: The Wild Story Behind a New $500,000 Michigan Winner

I would like to think that I would remain calm, but part of me thinks I would either scream from excitement or faint from shock.

Patrick Jedrzejczyk lives in Arenac County, and recently bought a $5 Electric 50s Instant Game ticket.

After scratching off the ticket he went numb because he realized he had just won $500,000

During a recent trip to Michigan Lottery headquarters Patrick Jedrzejczyk recounted what happened during that exciting moment.

"I was on my way home from work when I stopped to buy a lottery ticket. There are a few scratch-off games I usually play—Electric 50s being one of them—and that’s the game I happened to pick that day.

I scratched the ticket as soon as I got into my car and went numb when I saw I had won $500,000. I immediately called my wife and said, 'I can’t breathe!' She thought I was having a medical emergency until I told her, 'I just won half a million dollars!'

After I hung up, I scanned the ticket on the Michigan Lottery app just to make sure it was real. We called our kids to tell them the news, but they thought we were pulling an early April Fools’ Day prank. This has been an unbelievable experience—my wife and I haven’t slept in days!"
