Apparently the closure came before the building sustained damage in a car crash.

Grand Rapids Business Journal reports Kingfisher Restaurant and Deli closed last week at 1001 Lake Drive SE in the East Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids, in the former Marie Catrib's.

It had been open for just over a year. Husband and wife co-owners Joel Wabeke and Sarah Wepman also own That Early Bird Café and Littlebird. Wabeke was also the head chef at Kingfisher.

According to GRBJ, Kingfisher served appetizers, omelets, bowls and hash, soups and salads, toast and sandwiches, sweets and pastries; many of the offerings were vegetarian or vegan.

A Facebook page for Kingfisher appears to still be active. A closure announcement has not been posted at the time of this writing.

WZZM-13 reports that a car crash occurred in front of the building, at the corner of Lake Drive and Diamond Ave., just after 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Two vehicles appeared to be damaged, as did the front of the restaurant.

According to Wood TV 8 no serious injuries were reported. The extent of the damage to the building is unknown.
