‘Terroristic’ Fentanyl Bust Puts West Michigan Dealer Away For Decades

Darrell Mitchell was arrested last year after vice detectives spent several months investigating him as a suspected high-level drug trafficker.

When police made the bust on March 3 at his apartment on Wimbledon Drive SW in Grandville, they found almost 1.1 pounds of pure fentanyl and roughly half a pound of heroin.
That pound and a half of drugs was deadly enough to kill 250,000 people — the entire population of Grand Rapids and Grandville combined — which is why they described the amount as “terroristic” in scale.
Darrell Mitchell Drug Trafficking Record
Police records show that Mitchell has a drug trafficking record that goes back over 25 years.
He had just served about 17 years in federal prison for major cocaine trafficking before being released in 2024.
That criminal past came back to hurt him when the judge handed down his sentence.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver 450 grams or more, but less than 1,000 grams, of fentanyl and reached a plea deal that could have him in prison anywhere from 51 to 360 months in state prison.
If Mitchell serves the full amount, he’s looking at 30 years behind bars, which would make him 84 years old when released.
