Typically in the summer, parents are sending their kids off to camp but like everything else, the pandemic has totally ruined any type of fun this summer. However, the Humane Society of West Michigan is still trying to keep things fun for kids... even if it may be at a distance.

Every year the Humane Society hosts youth camps but this year they've moved things virtually. Humane U will be held every week until August 28th and registration is still open.

When you sign your kid up they will be committed to one full week of virtual camp. Next week's (Aug. 10-14) theme is "Back to Nature: Exploring Your Backyard." The description reads:

Each day of this camp will be filled with animal interaction time, activities, games and crafts geared toward a variety of animals in our own backyard.

Each camper will receive about 40 hours of content, supplies for activities, a camp T-shirt, and one-on-one animal time at the shelter! To register, email heducation@hswestmi.org.

Cost is $100 for a child and an additional $25 for a sibling.

This particular camp is designed for campers 8-12 years old.

On another note, if you don't have kids in the home, you can always add a fur baby to your family! The Humane Society of West MI has several animals looking for forever homes, like Piper -- Christine's Pet of the Week! She's a 3-year-old medium mixed breed who's a sweet girl that is a bit shy at first but opens up once she gets to know you. She would love a patient, quiet, routine household that will allow her to be herself. Once she trusts you, Piper will be your best friend! Plus, how can you resist that big smile?!
