People Doing Good: Michigan Teen Steps Up And Takes Younger Sister To Father/Daughter Dance
Man, I love People Doing Good stories. It’s a chance to be reminded that world is bigger than just you. It’s also a chance to see the positive side of the world.
This story is going to hit you in the feels.
You see life’s been tough for Mohammed, 17, and Noor, 6, since their mom and dad got divorced. Recently, the brother and sister along with their mom moved to Portage, Mich. from Louisiana; they were even homeless for a few months.
So it’s been rough, but it was especially evident last Saturday when Mohammad came down the stairs to see his sister sitting in a dress because it was the “Father/Daughter Dance” at her school that night. Even though their dad isn't in the picture and Noor knew that meant she wasn't going to be able to go to the dance, she still wanted to wear the dress.
That’s all it took for Mohammad to decide he needed to step up.
“I wasn’t going to let my little sister be the one out of all her friends to not be at the dance,” he said.
So he took his sister to get a new fancy dress and off to the dance they went.
Mohammad said they had a great time and since everyone voted him "Best Dad", Noor won a box of chocolates!
Mohammad said he’s grateful for one thing from the struggles of the past few months, which is how close it's brought the two of them to each other.
Mohammad also told Buzzfeed exactly why I love People Doing Good stories:
“To me [the dance] meant so much,” the brother said. “It sort of gave me a wake-up call on how important it is to be there for her.”
Remembering the world is bigger than just you.
