Wings Over Muskegon Air Show to Take a Hiatus in 2025 Due to Construction
If you have loved seeing the return of Wings Over Muskegon, make sure you attend this weekend, because it's going to be your last chance until 2026.
Fans of the popular air show will be disappointed to learn that the event will not be returning in 2025. This difficult decision comes as the Muskegon County Airport gears up for a critical FAA-sponsored construction project set to begin in the spring of 2025.
The $20 million project, which will span six months, involves the complete removal and reconstruction of Taxiway Alpha, one of the airport’s oldest and most vital pieces of infrastructure. Originally built in the 1960s, Taxiway Alpha will undergo a total overhaul, including the installation of new lighting, navigational aids, and underground utilities. The taxiway will also be relocated further to the southeast, away from the high-energy areas near the center of Runway 6/24.
The construction will unfold in several phases throughout the spring, summer, and fall of 2025, significantly impacting ground traffic at the airport. While routine scheduled air service and general aviation operations are expected to continue as usual, the complexity and scale of the project make it impossible to host an air show during that time. The taxiway is essential for the smooth operation of the Wings Over Muskegon event, especially when show-related surfaces are closed.

In light of these challenges, the airport staff, in close collaboration with the Michigan Flight Museum and other key stakeholders, have decided to put the air show on hold for next year. However, there is good news on the horizon—plans are already in place for the Wings Over Muskegon Air Show to return in 2026, once the construction is complete.
For those eager to catch this year’s Wings Over Muskegon, the event kicks off tomorrow, August 9th, at 5 p.m. with a Twilight Show featuring live music and a full lineup of aerial performers. The show continues through the weekend, with gates opening at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. With ideal weather conditions in the forecast, it promises to be a spectacular event.
