All the Pumpkin Spice Products We Didn’t Ask For Thanks to the Basic Fall Girl
Well it’s official. It’s fall y’all
No need to go checking your calendar. The first day of Fall is actually September 22nd. But today (Tuesday) Starbucks has released their ever-so-popular pumpkin spice latte causing basic b’s everywhere to unite. If a basic girl goes to Starbucks, orders a PSL, and doesn’t Instagram it… did it even happen?
So how did the pumpkin spice craze spiral the way it did? Well for starters a lot of the PS products isn’t actually pumpkin. It’s a blend of spices consisting of nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, and ginger. It wasn’t always this way. Recipes started off with real pumpkins up until the 1960’s when spice companies became more popular and started selling “pumpkin pie spice.”
But it wasn’t until the world’s largest coffee chain came into play and changed up the autumn game 18 years ago when they rolled out the pumpkin spice latte. Since then, pumpkin spice has taken over our lives being released in variations that we didn’t ask for:
- Pumpkin spice candles
- Pumpkin spice deodorant
- Pumpkin spice chewing gum
- Pumpkin Spice Mac & Cheese
- Pumpkin spice Yogurt
- Pumpkin spice Cereal
- Pumpkin Spice Vodka
- Pumpkin Spice Lotion
- Pumpkin Spice Cough Drops
- Pumpkin Spice Dog food and Kitty Litter
- and, most recently, a Pumpkin Spice Face Mask
Bubba said shrimp was the fruit of the sea in Forrest Gump, well pumpkin is the spice of life. There’s even a rumor that pumpkin spice is the missing member of the Spice Girls.
That’s neither here nor there because we can’t talk about pumpkin spice without talking about its unofficial spokesperson. She loves her Ugg boots, flannel shirt, North Face jacket, and overly priced leggings. In hand, is a coffee cup that says “stressed, blessed, pumpkin spice obsessed.” There may not be a leaf on the ground yet but that won’t stop her. It’s the BASIC FALL GIRL! Coming to a Starbucks and Trader Joe’s near you.
