Why Did He Leave

Custer claimed that he was harassed and ultimately fired after filing complaints about newsroom leadership specifically general manager Ken Frierson Jr. and news director Jayne Hodak Soboleski.

In his suit, Custer alleged that management retaliated against him for reporting workplace issues, which resulted in his abrupt firing just a few days after filing the complaint.

Custer Wins Case Against WNEM TV

The jury awarded Custer damages (reported around $100,000) and confirmed that the station’s management had engaged in unlawful employment practices.

WNEM and its corporate parent have not yet commented on whether they will appeal the ruling.

What Is Custer Doing Now

Since he left the station last summer, Custer has served as Executive Director of Media Relations for the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.

It's nice to see that someone who claimed they were targeted and harassed for trying to report problems in the workplace was eventually able to get his victory in court and will hopefully inspire other people to stand up for themselves in the workplace when something is happening.

To me It's still wrong that he lost his job in the first place, I'm sure he's happy at his current job but I have to wonder if he would still be at the news station if the work environment was as bad as he claimed.
