I didn't know kissing chickens were a thing but apparently it is... and you need to stop now!

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released a new study, which spanned over 24 years, found a correlation between the increase of having backyard chickens as pets and salmonella outbreaks. The biggest outbreak occurred in 2012.

Researchers looked at the number of cases of salmonella between 1990 and 2014 and found that the majority of people were kissing and cuddling their live poultry.

  • 49% of people admitted to cuddling with their baby chickens or ducks
  • 46% let them roam around the house (including the bedroom and bathroom)
  • 13% admitted to kissing them

The CDC warns that poultry should never be allowed in the house and to remember to always wash your hands. Even the healthy chickens can still carry the salmonella disease.
