If you’re bored and looking for some random things to do, or are just curious about how I spend my time, this is for you!

This has been one of the busiest summers of my life. It’s kind of crazy because I think everyone assumes I spend hours with Netflix, but that hasn’t been the case at all (kind of) this summer.

    Road Tripping to My Hometown

I’m originally from the Toledo area and since I moved here to Grand Rapids about two years ago, this is the closest I’ve been to my family in the last 7 years. At least once I month I love heading on a short road trip down 96 and 23 to see family, friends and spend some time on the trails in my old stomping grounds.

    Grand Rapids’ Events!

Yeah we all work, but I have a pretty cool job. I don’t just sit around the station all day, we get to be part of some of the best events in Grand Rapids! Amway Family Fireworks and Sun of a Beach both come to mind!

    Learning New Things

I like learning new things, that’s why I enrolled in college courses and started reading like a crazy person. I was never much of a reader growing up, but for the first time in my life I’m doing more reading that I am watching TV (okay, exaggeration). If you’re looking for some good books to read try Stephen King’s 11/22/63, amazing book and a total mind trip. Another good one is The Last Lecture by the late Randy Pausch. I’m reading Zealot by Reza Aslan now, and about to get some lighter reading going with Mr. Ron Swanson himself, or Nick Offerman, and Gumption.

As for the school, ever wonder how the prison system works? It’s much more interesting than most people think, that’s why I’m taking CC classes about such.

    Netflix

Okay you got me, between my Xfinity service and Netflix I have a lot happening on my TV. Have you seen this season’s Under the Dome? Holy cow, and that’s not a reference to the cow that was split in half in the first season. Catching up on shows like Chicago P.D., re-watching last season's The Walking Dead, numerous episodes of The Office and Parks and Recreation, and struggling to find time for this season’s House of Cards has kept the TV just about as busy as my running shoes.

    Exploring Grand Rapids on Foot

Reeds Lake, Millennium Park, the sidewalks around Ridgemoor, and the track at EGR: What do they have in common?

Answer: Me burning the soles of my shoes on their surface.

It’s been such a good summer for running, and I started a training program about a month ago to help me take that next step to running. I have no desire to be a marathon runner, but I would like to run competitive 5k races, and in the process I’ve been able to take in some awesome views of our city.

Also, a side effect of all of this has been burning body fat and some pretty great weight loss.
