Tuesday, August 3rd cities and neighborhoods across the country will be partaking in National Night Out. The point of it is to build camaraderie between the community and police.

Kentwood is one of the West Michigan cities that will be participating and have over 15 events planned on Tuesday. There will be various block parties within neighborhoods but also planned events that are free for residents to attend:

Kentwood police officers, firefighters, and leaders plan on attending the different events and be on site with their emergency vehicles for people to see and sit in. They'll also be talking about safety topics.

In the city's event page they say that National Night Out is not only fun but "crucial."

It is crucial in developing local anti-crime efforts, strengthening neighborhood spirit and bridging the gap between the police and community.  We are very thankful for all the various neighborhoods in Kentwood that are dedicated to doing their part to keep our city a wonderful place which to live, work, and play.

Grand Rapids also plans on celebrating on Tuesday and are asking residents to hang outside on their porches and get to know their neighbors. The city's three public pools (Richmond Pool, Martin Luther King Pool, Briggs Park Pool) will also be hosting free swim hours.
