Nothing beat waking up early on a Saturday morning and flipping the TV on to find some of the best cartoons on the planet. Add a bowl of Count Chocula to the mix and you reached childhood ecstasy. Unfortunately, that is now a thing of the past.

The CW was the last of the networks to air Saturday morning cartoons and they just ran their last batch of cartoon programming.

So, what's the deal?

Engadget.com says that "a combination of regulation and technological progress" is what killed the Saturday morning cartoon. In other words, in 1996 an FCC rule was put in place that required stations to offer at least three hours of educational programming every week. Since networks don't want to interrupt programming during the week, they loaded it all into Saturday morning TV.

The other part of this kids today, like adults, aren't stuck with just three or four channels. Between cable channels that are dedicated to nothing but cartoons, and streaming available on Hulu and Netflix, the kids have more options than ever.

But still, it's not the same.
