The Lowell Showboat in downtown Lowell is now closed to the public.  The showboat, also known as the Robert E. Lee, has been around for about four decades.  The city says the boat is no longer safe for people to come aboard.

The Robert E. Lee is the fifth Lowell Showboat since 1932.  Hopefully there will be a sixth showboat in the future or a restoration of the current one.  If you would like to take part in the planning, the "Rebuild the Lowell Showboat Committee" will have a public meeting at the Lowell City Hall on January 19th to share information and to take ideas from the public.
